Research

Innovation begins at the edge of our existing collective knowledge base. When we innovate, we step over this edge into the possibility of generating new knowledge that will advance the field of education. The key is to rigorously study innovation activities, and to translate what is being learned into new, actionable knowledge. The key is research. Research produces new knowledge, and new knowledge is the essential fuel that propels ongoing innovation. We rigorously research everything we do, including how we stimulate and support innovation to the actual innovations of our clients, be they early stage prototypes or a late stage pilots on the cusp of being scaled. Our research allows us to manage risk, improve success rates, and identify and share innovations across Denver and the nation that are making a real difference for students.  We study innovation in multiple ways. We study successes: how they work, for what students, and under what conditions. Just as important, we study failures: we catch them early, diagnose them, and use our diagnoses to make future innovations better. SMARTER. Then, we translate our learning into stories and research reports to help turn knowledge into action. Check out some of our research below.
